Jensen—Klint folded the first hand–pleated lampshade for a kerosene lamp that he had designed. RUSSO BETAK is a Danish–Brazilian design duo that 3D prints biomaterials into home objects. Inspired by a vision of uniting nature and technology, Stefannia Russo and Søren Betak founded their practice on the belief that emerging technologies can propel us toward a future where nature–based home objects are part of everyday life. Research led them to build a robotic system that transforms biomaterials typically seen as waste. Pelikan, the first in their line of home objects, is 3D printed from mussel, oyster, and scallop shells with biopolymer. Its three natural pigmentations carry a translucence that softly diffuses light. Designed to last yet circular by design, Pelikan can return to the earth as compost at the end of its lifecycle.
