Poetic Modernism
"Our mantras throughout our entire work life have been 'slow aesthetics' and 'poetic modernism,' which are statements that we feel are even more essential today than ever."
Space Copenhagen, Signe Bindslev Henriksen and Peter Bundgaard Rützou, deftly balances opposites – classic and modern, sculptural and minimal.
What's your dream?
Dreams are always in flux, changing and transforming as time passes. Longings and experience are somehow inseparable. Perhaps the notion of being able – and fortunate enough – to continuously move forward, evolving and discovering what this strange world is about, is our longest-lasting dream.
How do you dream of contributing to the world?
We think that our focus on virtues, committing to our principles and sticking by them, defines some sort of navigation. By trying our best, by celebrating skill and curiosity and on the way being conscious of how our choices have impact and consequence – this is our compass. We strive to be always aware, moving and dreaming with a sense of responsibility for our actions.
What do you think the world needs more of? And less of?
We need more focus on the climate, nature and essential human connections. We need less digital noise, which steals our time, intellect, concentration and attention from the things that really matter.

Like everyone else, we are deeply affected by the state of the world and whether the topic is climate, war or radical political division, we are dealing with a reality that is radically different and much more challenging than when we started our work life. But we all have to keep hope and optimism alive, and we dare to dream that spaces and relevant design can also change our perception of things, especially when it comes to human interaction. As designers, we have a great responsibility in these matters, and we try to design and create spaces where people feel comfortable and embraced. We also create designs with a long life, that feel both timely and timeless, and always engaging. Our mantras throughout our entire work life have been "slow aesthetics" and "poetic modernism", which are statements that we feel are even more essential today than ever.
